In 2021, CMS began requiring every hospital to publish machine-readable pricing files. Over 80% now comply. The data exists — but it arrives in 20+ file formats, with no standard schema, across hundreds of millions of rows per state. The mandate created the data supply. Nobody made it useful.
Three forces converged in 2024-2025 to create this market:
